Bashir-Alavi Award: Every year at the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Symposium, we proudly recognise exceptional contributions to oncology research through the Bashir‑Alavi Award. As of 2025, this honour has been awarded to five outstanding researchers, each advancing the fight against cancer through their research.
About the Award: The Bashir‑Alavi Award celebrates the best research article published from Pakistan in the field of oncology. It was co‑founded by:
- Dr. Humayun Bashir: Consultant in Nuclear Medicine at Kent & Canterbury Hospital, UK, and an alumnus of SKMCH&RC
- Professor Abass Alavi: A global icon in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging
Honouring a Legacy: The year 2026 marks 50 years since Professor Alavi and his team performed the first‑ever human FDG PET scan in 1976, a breakthrough that transformed cancer diagnosis and treatment for millions. The Bashir‑Alavi Award carries forward his vision, impact, and lifelong commitment to advancing medical science.
Submit Your Research: If you are a researcher dedicated to improving cancer care in Pakistan, we invite you to submit your published manuscript at symposium@skm.org.pk
