Mr. Ahsan Rashid was a great supporter and benefactor of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust. He was a member of our Board of Governors from the early days of the organization. He was also a close friend of Mr. Imran Khan, in both philanthropy and later in politics. He was a very popular figure among Pakistani expatriates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and was known for his compassion and generosity. Sadly, he succumbed to cancer towards the end of 2016.

The Ahsan Rashid Memorial Medal was established in 2017. It is awarded to the highest-ranked research presented at the annual Shaukat Khanum Cancer Symposium. Each year, the best free papers compete for the medal in a session which is adjudicated by an esteemed panel of judges in front of a large audience. Free papers for this session should only be presented by trainees.
